First try with watercolours in...what, two years? My mediocre skills have deteriorated even further, lol. Still, I suppose it wasn't THAT bad for a once-in-730-days attempt.
I acknowledge that there are probably a gazillion mistakes/weak spots/LOTS of rough brushing in there, so if you see any please don't hesitate to tell me Along with advice to overcome it too, if possible.
The thing is, I've been taught to use 'soft' watercolours ever since I've owned a watercolour set, so although I might understand how 'hard' watercolour can be applied in theory that doesn't mean I how how in practical. Unfortunately.
I've never tried the other two mediums you mentioned in your reply either - gouache and acrylics, right?
O, don't be so hard on yourself! Its a beautiful image! And besides watercolors are supposed to look soft ^_^ I'm the one who is using the wrong! I started painting with oils and acrylics first, and just carried on that same technique with watercolor. In school, they always said to use watercolor in very light layers and build up.... but that drives me crazy! I don't have the patience. Gouache is like a thick watercolor. You should try it, I bet you would like it!
I usually go to Blick art materials.. I found some on their site [link] It would be cool to find a nice set, but I can only find the tubed paints sold individually here!
Ooh, now I know what gouache is. X.X Opaque watercolour, huh?
Is it safe to buy from that site? I've not tried, but there has been so many bad rumours about buying things from online sites that I wouldn't dare even if I had the means to (which I don't, yet). Haiz.
But they don't look too expensive, I guess. If those are US dollars that would equate to less than RM15 in my currency. Hmm.
Well, it is a legit site, but there are always hazards with online shopping. I'm sure any art store carries them, if you are too worried about it, though ^_~

Most of my classmates use the 'hard' watercolour look though. Haha. That's why I often wondered if I learned it wrong somehow.
Lol.
